Incoming Freshman Information

Good Evening Freshman Class Parents & Students,

The following gives you a glimpse of the letter that you will soon receive in the mail.  The letter will also include information regarding student dress code, upcoming events, etc., which are noted as attachments.

Note:  Online registration begins tomorrow.

Welcome to Clear Springs High School for the 2017 -2018 school year.  We anticipate another outstanding year!  The Clear Springs Faculty is excited about meeting the incoming freshman class as well as returning sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Clear Springs has established an instructional environment of excellence.  As the principal I am pleased to be surrounded by such an amazing group of students, parents, faculty, and community members.  As we prepare for the new school year, to assist you in transitioning and to welcome your student to high school, we will be hosting our Parent Orientation on Wednesday, August 16th at 6:30 pm in the auditorium here at CSHS.  This orientation is designed to provide information to freshman and new upperclassman student parents.  Many of our Booster Clubs and PTA will have Spirit items available for purchase.  CSHS parents are an integral part of our school and your support and interest is critical to student success.  Please support the freshman class by bringing a 12 pack of Coke, Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper, Cherry Coke, Sprite or Sunkist to Parent Orientation.  The freshman class will sell beverages at the homecoming carnival as a fundraiser.

Online Student Registration.  Skyward is available beginning August 1st for students returning to a CCISD school for the 2017-18 school year.  All back-to-school forms need to be completed online prior to Proof of Residency (POR) return and schedule pick-up. Please note, new students who registered this summer have already completed this process and can come at their designated date and time for schedule pick up. POR return for CSHS freshman is scheduled for Monday, August 7th from 1pm – 4pm here at CSHS. If you do not have an existing account please contact CSHS.  On Monday, August 7th we will have the library computer lab available from 1pm -4pm for parents who need to complete all or part of the registration process for POR return.   As a reminder, PORs must match parent/guardian name and address listed in Skyward.  Acceptable PORs are a currentmortgage statement, utility bill (water, gas, electric), or a notarized lease agreement.  Please note, freshmen will have the opportunity to bring their POR information Tuesday, August 8th through Thursday, August 10th from 4:00-7:00 pm to support the completion of this process prior to Fish Camp.

Residency Affidavits must be completed every year with a new notarized form.  All online student registration, Residency Affidavits, and PORs must be completed before students receive their schedule. Please note online registration for continuing students can be found by selecting the “@school” link on the CCISD website.  Once you have signed into Skyward, select “Back to School Forms” (district forms) and not New Enrollment, as this selection does not apply to continuing students.  Students are encouraged to complete this process prior to participation in Fish Camp.

In the Clear Creek Independent School District, our mission is to prepare students to compete and succeed in the ever-changing 21st century. This mission requires us to look at education through a child’s eyes today, and recognize the power technology will have on their life now, tomorrow, and decades to come. Our one-to-one student device initiative is designed to harness that power to provide students unmatched opportunities to access the world effectively and responsibly.

Students may be held responsible for any loss or damage caused by intentional or negligent acts in caring for tablets/laptops while under their control. As a result we strongly encourage you to buy the optional insurance for your child’s device.  This insurance is $20.00, or $10.00 if your student is on free/reduced lunch.  Having insurance on the device can protect you from having to pay for repair up to $475.00 which could cover replacement of the device.

To learn more about the student devices and how to buy insurance please visit http://www.ccisd.net/departments/technology/student_devices/

Progress reports/report cards are only available in Skyward unless parents choose to receive paper copies.  Parents will need to make this selection in Skyward.  This information is available as part of the Back to School Forms.

Students who are not planning to return should contact the registrar’s office at 281-284-1326 for information.

Season passes for football games played at CCISD stadiums will be available for purchase during early schedule pickup.  The cost is $48.00.  Purchasing a season pass must occur on or before the first varsity football game.

Fish Camp --- All freshman students are invited to attend Friday, August 11th from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.  Fish Camp is an opportunity to be introduced to our campus traditions, meet student leaders, activity sponsors, administrative staff, counselors and classroom teachers, in addition to meeting fellow classmates and receiving information on what to expect in high school. Special thank you to the CSHS PTSA who will serve lunch for $5.00.

Students who need to add/drop courses prior to the start of school can do so at Fish Camp.  Students enrolled in Pre-AP or AP classes will not be permitted to add/drop courses after Thursday, August 17thDistrict policy states: "Course level changes will be considered only at the first progress report and at the end of the first nine week grading period of the semester.  To be considered for a transfer from a Pre-AP or AP course, the student must have made a sincere effort to succeed by attending tutorials, completing his/her work, and by conferencing with his/her teacher.  The parent must conference with the teacher before a course level change will be considered.  If these conditions are met and the student is earning less than a grade of 75 on the first progress report or at the end of the first nine week grading period, that student will be considered for a change.  Space availability in the receiving course will be a consideration for a course level change."

Attached is the District's High School Dress Code to assist you in shopping for the upcoming school year.  Enclosed you will find information regarding upcoming events, important dates, PTSA and a nomination form to participate on the Campus Instructional Improvement Council (CIIC).  The CIIC is a leadership team of faculty, staff, and parents that assist the principal in developing, reviewing, and revising the campus improvement plan.  The purpose of this committee is to improve student performance for all student populations with respect to academic excellence indicators and other appropriate performance measures.  The committee is involved in decisions in the areas of planning, budgeting, staffing, curriculum, staff development, and school organization.  CIIC generally meets on the fourth Monday of each month from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm.  If you are interested in serving on the CIIC, please complete the nomination form below and mail by Friday, August 11th

Finally, I would like to encourage you to make this year the best that it can be for your education.  We are here to support you in accomplishing your goals.

Let the learning begin, Monday, August 21st is the First Day of School! The clock is ticking....
